no less than chris christie, a lot of political mechanician is read into that one. as a new jersey resident, you take it wherever you can. earlier today, if you are chris christie looking for financial health, gorman and his job was offering id you ticket and run with it. today the two men during damaged areas. so many of the places that made new jersey one of the cost is clean of states in the country. now, back to florida and this race and how things stand. i want to bring you up-to-date on the latest poll. these are some shockers. we have always told you. my body with and we will be hearing shortly, it is as tight as a tape. is pretty much confirms it. 46-46. that is called a tie. now take a look at the approval and disapproval this is getting on the president and how he's doing on the economy. 45 percent are approving of the job is doing. 52 percent are not. i should say that approval rating has edged up. this could be, perhaps, the more distressing news for at least mitt romney. he still leads among independent voters by 7 percent, but that has gone down from 12% that he enjoy

see president obama and chris christie standing together and praising one another and talking about the ways they are working together, and seeing their coordinated state and federal disasters, this sort of thing becomes remarkable today, only because president obama is a democrat, and chris christie is a republican, and chris christie specifically is a republican who has been a very caustic partisan critic of president obama, in his role as a campaign surrogate for mitt romney, who president obama is running against, in a presidential election that ends in six days. mitt romney and that campaign today, that campaign that chris christie has been supporting, they made a somewhat remarkable decision to go ahead and keep campaigning, today, to get back on the campaign trail and start doing partisan campaign rallies again, even while the president was still suspending his own schedule, so he could respond to the storm. so what we saw today, in split screen, was president obama departing the white house en route to storm-ravaged new jersey, after he stopped in at fema headquarters, and a

join governor chris christie to see the devastation on the ground himself. meanwhile, governor romney, he's back on the trail in florida. there's still just six days until the election. what does that tell us about where the campaign stakes are really in play this morning. good morning from washington. it's wednesday, october 31st, 2012. happy halloween. this is "the daily rundown." i'm chuck todd. let's get right to may first reads of the morning. we're still a long way from recovery. today after hurricane sandy's devastation we're seeing the very first signs of a return to what may be some normalcy as millions attempt to put the pieces back together. this hour new york city mayor michael bloomberg will ring the opening bell at the new york stock exchange which plans to be fully operational despite blackouts and flooding in lower manhattan. two of the area's major airports, jfk and newark in new jersey have opened with some limited service this morning. but new york's laguardia airport remains closed after major flooding. overall, nearly 19,000 flights canceled since sunday. t
